Living With Green Energy Sources

Everyone is talking about green living or green energy today. Many people are looking for options that allow them to integrate green energy sources to create more energy-efficient homes or offices.

What is a green energy source?
Simply put, green energy source is power generated through renewable resources, such as the sun, wind and water. Utilizing green energy sources helps counteract some of the effects of global warming and pollution.

Types of green energy sources

Solar energy
The most popular green energy source is the sun, also known as the solar energy. Of the green energy sources, solar energy is the most popular because of the applications with which it can be used. For example:
  • Electrical energy - You can use solar panels to convert energy from the sun into electricity for your home or business.
  • Hot water - You can use solar hot water collectors to transform the heat of the sun to produce hot water.
Solar green energy sources are readily available. People can have solar panels mounted on their roof to harness the energy from the sun. Utility costs can be largely reduced when using this form of green energy source. No wonder solar power systems are increasing in popularity these days.

Wind energy
The most efficient green energy source is wind. From the history, we know that wind has been used to power water pumps for centuries. This old, traditional way of making energy is still popular in this modern era, as a way to supplement home and business electricity needs.

Wind is the safest and cleanest of the green energy sources. It produces no pollutants and does not contribute to global warming. However, wind is not as readily available as sun. You must live in an area where wind is readily available in order to utilize wind as a green energy source. Wind energy is harnessed by erecting a turbine, which will spin in the breeze thereby generating electricity

Water energy
Water is also a viable participant of green energy sources. However, water is less widely used compared to sun and wind, because not all homes have a stream nearby to produce the needed electricity. Water energy is largely harnessed through an old conveyor belt system, such as what the Amish do. Though old, the system is still being used successfully today.

As with solar and wind energy, energy harnessed from moving water is almost completely pollutant free and is generated from a renewable resource.
